Bursting at the seams
Det brister fram, or “the chestburster jacket” as it is also known, is a project from my school days. Taking inspiration from Swedish folk costume from different regions, the tail coat combines a masculine silhouette of a Limafrack with the distinctive chest hole found in for example Ingelstad women’s jackets. Traditionally the hole in the jacket front shows off a chest piece.
In my interpretation the chest piece grows horns and burtst out of the heart of the wearer to clash with the black, regimented rigidity of the manly tailcoat fashion. The chest piece is decorated with paper and silk flowers and sports a small but noticable hunting trophy. The chest piece itself is made of canvas and cardboard, and has a core of love letters, as tradition dictates.
